Britney Spears Divorces Kevin Federline

Britney Spears has apparently decided that Kevin Federline's 15 minutes of fame are up. The pop star filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court from her husband of two years, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, according to her court documents. Spears, 24, requested physical and legal custody of the couple's two sons, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month-old Jayden James, with visitation rights for Federline, 28. She waived her right to spousal support (a no-brainer) and requested that each party pay their own legal fees.

Spears listed the date of the couple's separation as Monday, the very same day she made a surprise appearance on Late Night with David Letterman to show off her newly slim figure. Interestingly enough, Spears listed the date of her marriage as Oct. 6, 2004, meaning that the Sept. 18, 2004, wedding featured in a People magazine spread and the subject of much controversy at the time was in fact not the real deal. A representative for Spears had no comment on the split. Both Spears and Federline have been in New York in recent days, but Spears tellingly avoided all promotional events for the release of her now-estranged husband's CD.

Just last week, Federline told the Associated Press that he and Spears had a "love-at-first-sight-type deal" that had yet to fade. "I've been in relationships since I was 13 years old, so I know what I want," he said. "Her personality and her attitude and all that stuff, it really works. I don't know how sometimes, but it really works." During an emotional interview with Dateline in June, Spears was similarly complimentary of Federline, calling her marriage "awesome" and stating that he was an "amazing" husband.

But somewhere between the birth of the couple's second son on Sept. 12 and the release of Federline's debut album on Oct. 31, the relationship apparently went downhill, at least as far as Spears was concerned. In addition to any upcoming court commitments, the soon-to-be single mother-of-two will be keeping busy on the professional front. Spears is readying a musical comeback, with her fifth studio album, Fear Within, due out next year. With marriage number two coming to an end, hopefully Spears will give it some time before walking down the aisle again. Her first ill-advised marriage, to childhood friend Jason Alexander, fell apart after only 55 hours. She wed Federline eight months later.

Australian Idol Down To Two

Australian Idol pin-up boy Dean Geyer has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from the competition. But the South African-born with model looks is set to be signed by record company Sony, with judge Mark Holden telling Geyer he would "definitely" get a recording deal. Geyer's departure from the show leaves Irishman Damien Leith and 17-year-old Jessica Mauboy to battle it out in the series grand final at the Sydney Opera House.

Geyer, a favourite with the ladies, said he was grateful to have gone so far in the competition. "I've had the best time. I never ever expected I'd get here," he said following his elimination. "It would have been nice to go to the Opera House but these guys (Leith and Mauboy), I have so much respect for them, I hear them every day in the house, singing in the house, and honestly they're going hard." Holden told Geyer he had been contacted by Sony executives who "loved" the 20-year-old Victorian's style. "... they are definitely going to offer you a deal mate," Holden told Geyer to loud applause and cheers from the audience.

Rove's Show On Hold After Emmett's Death

Rove McManus has cancelled this week's episode of Rove Live, after the TV host's wife Belinda Emmett passed on the weekend. Emmett was surrounded by family and friends on Saturday morning when she lost her eight-year battle with cancer at Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital. A statement released by Network Ten said McManus' program, Rove Live, would not air on Tuesday night. It is not known when McManus or the program will return to air. "Ten will give Rove the time he needs away from the show and any support we can during this very sad time," the statement said.

Actor-turned-singer Toni Collette was to appear on this week's Rove Live, as was musician Pete Murray and Borat, the fictional journalist from Kazakhstan played by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. "Network Ten notes with great sadness Belinda Emmett's passing this morning," the statement said. "Our heartfelt sympathies are with Rove McManus and the Emmett and McManus families."

The pair, who fell in love after meeting at the opening of Fox Studios in Sydney, had described their partnership as "true love". Emmett had earlier spoken out about her husband's staunch support during her long cancer fight: "Rove's fantastic. He doesn't flinch. He's incredible, absolutely incredible."

Russell Simmons and Petra Nemcova

Is Russell Simmons' eye on Petra Nemcova? The tsunami-surviving supermodel, who's said to have jettisoned singer James Blunt, looked awfully cozy with the hip-hop mogul Tuesday night at the P.M. party for John Legend's new CD, "Once Again." Simmons, who's separated from wife Kimora Lee, assured us yesterday they're "just friends" and charity partners. "I don't know anyone as dedicated to lifting people up as Petra".
